Well the G3 is still going, no sign of issues yet, and I’ve also now repeated the process on another G3 that was having issues and that one appears to be holding together as well!

In fact the 2nd machine has been in the loft because I thought it was unfixable, it was having data corruption issues even with 9-10gig drives from the same era, but I thought I’d try it out again just in case.

slapped in another Seagate drive (a 5400rpm one this time) hooked it up with a 40 wire ATA cable, lo and behold, 30 mins later we have a working install of OS X Panther, something which I was never able to achieve using 80 wire cable no matter what drive I was using unless it was the original 6 gig one.

G3 number 1 is now powering Ninnycam so we’ll see how it holds up to 24/7 webcam feeding...
